Srikandi: Indonesia's Woman Warrior

Srikandi is one of the dynamic heroines of the Indonesian version of The Mahabharata (Hindu epic). Born a woman, she trains as a warrior in order to avenge a wrong that was committed to her in a past life. Throughout Indonesia, Srikandi is held up as a symbol for gender equality and appears in both traditional performances and popular culture. During this presentation, Dr. Jennifer Goodlander from Indiana University, shared puppetry, film, dance, and other art forms around the archipelago to explore the history and legacy of this amazing character.
